Gutters keep water off the foundation

A sagging gutter filled with debris

Gutters in a dry climate earn their keep the same way a roof does: when it rains or melts, you want the water going where you choose, not off the eave edge onto the foundation grade. Most valley gutter calls trace to clogs from cottonwood and deciduous debris, separated seams, and downspouts that dump where they should not.

What goes wrong

Clogged sections overflow at the lowest point and stain the fascia while the water pools against the house. Seam separations drip onto the same spot every rain and eventually undermine the soil line under them. On sloped lots the discharge point matters twice as much, a downspout that ends short of the drain path is a foundation moisture problem on a delay.

What the job covers

Repair when sections are sound but seams or hangers failed. Replacement when the run is bent, rusted, or sized wrong for the roof area it catches. Guards where tree debris is the recurring problem, which in the bench and North End neighborhoods it reliably is.

What to describe in the request

Where the problem shows, whether it is a clog, a leak, or a section that sagged off the hangers, and roughly how the gutter line runs around the house. The roofer pricing it needs the linear footage and the discharge layout before the number means anything.
