Verify roofing contractor Idaho

Idaho does not license contractors, it registers them. The distinction matters when you are checking a roofer: registration under the Idaho Contractor Registration Act is required for construction work over two thousand dollars, and the DOPL public search shows whether a company's registration is active and whether discipline is on file.

The system Idaho actually runs

The Contractors Board at DOPL handles registration statewide. A company doing roofing work over the two-thousand-dollar line must appear on the registry, and the record carries the company's status plus any enforcement history. The search is free and takes the business name or the registration number directly.

Two checks, one call

On the phone with the roofer, ask for the contractor registration number, and if the job is inside Boise city limits, whether they are pulling the 428 residential roofing permit. The first question proves they are on the state's books; the second proves they know the local path. A company working Boise roofs pulls the 428 as routine; one who hesitates on the permit question may not work here often enough to know it.

What the lookup can and cannot tell you

An active registration confirms the company met the state's requirements and sits inside the accountability system. It cannot confirm the work will be good, the estimate written after a real look at the roof is still the document that decides that. Storm-chaser crews that arrive after a hail event are exactly where this check earns its time: the ones who cannot produce a registration number are telling you what the pitch will not.

The short version

Ask for the registration number. Search it at dopl.idaho.gov. On a Boise city job, ask about the 428 permit. Three moves, all free, before anyone names a price.
